Lately blogging has started to feel like a chore and when I woke up this morning I had something planned but I simply didn’t feel like taking the pictures or writing the blog out.

How to Deal with a Blogging Rut

This feeling started after Blogmas.  I took a very short break off of blogging and ever since then I blogging has felt like a chore.  While it has been feeling like a chore, I do start enjoying it again once I’m putting the post together.  The problem with this is that I don’t want to wake up every morning and feel like I have to blog because then it just won’t be fun anymore.

So while thinking about how much I didn’t want to blog today I started thinking about why I felt this way and what the difference is when I am feeling motivated and excited to blog versus now, that I am not so excited.

Take time to think about you feelings. Really ask yourself what is going on and why you don’t feel excited to blog.  For me it was all the holidays and basically I had been lounging around the house so I just wanted to keep being lazy.  Another thing I believe triggered this is that with the Spring semester being so close, I am starting to get stressed over those classes.  

Plan. This morning I decided to plan some blog post.  I sat down in front of my computer with my calendar open and whatever came to mind I scheduled a blogpost for the idea.  This helps me out a lot because I plan out my post so I don’t have to stress out over what I am going to blog about that day.  While doing this I actually came up with the idea for this post.  I got super excited for the post and I could feel my excitement for blogging come back.  It also helps to make notes as to what you want to write about in that particular post.  I like to write my ideas down on the OneNote app on my phone.

Find Inspiration.  If you simply cannot come up with ideas for post, find inspiration.  When I have no idea what to blog about I always go to Pinterest.  Going on here helps out so much and I end out planning out posts for days ahead as well.  Another great way is to check out videos on YouTube; because my blog is beauty related, I can find lots of inspiration from the channels I follow.  Inspiration is seriously one Google search away!

Take time off. If you are going through a stressful situation, take time off of from blogging.  Use that time to pamper yourself and do things that you enjoy.  Once you have de-stressed, even if for a moment, the ideas will start flowing once more.

I’ve definitely been in a blog rut the last month and it stresses me out even more when I think about it LOL, great tips, it’s nice to give yourself time off to destress like you said and some back when you’re ready. I’ll be taking inspiration from this for sure & looking around for more inspiration to start planning some posts soon. This was great! xo

  2. Hi lovely, these tips are awesome. I sometimes find myself in a blogging rut as well, where I just feel as if I have nothing inspiring to say. The idea about planning ahead really helps! Sometimes on days I’m feeling extra inspired about blogging, I’ll write multiple posts and save one to publish on a day when I don’t feel like writing 🙂

  3. This is how i’ve been feeling. I just created a new entire blog on this account and decided to try and make it something i do every single day. A new topic each day and since i’ve decided that i’ve noticed i haven’t really been excited to do it or even have time to do it since i’ve got a lot going on right now. Spring semester is REALLY close and family situations make things so complicated to get ideas and my words flowing. This post made me feel so much better, knowing i’m not alone!! xoxo great post.

  4. Great tips. I`m all about planning. My ideas come in waves, and sometimes I have no fresh ideas, but sometimes I am FULL of ideas. So I jot everything down and then I have a pool of ideas to draw from. Bottom line: blogging rut is totally normal and nothing to be alarmed about! 🙂

    • Thanks! The same goes for me, there are times when I can plan a month in advance and other times when I am lucky if I have planned something for that day’s post. This is the first time I have been in a rut since I started blogging so I’m glad I’m not alone. 🙂

  5. I completely get how you feel! I did Blogmas and I literally felt drained afterwards and blogging did start to feel like hard work. But there’s nothing wrong with a break 🙂 I completely agree with all of your points especially the one about finding inspiration. I love visiting other blogs for ideas and just a good read really! 🙂 Xx
